The list represents the products required from each student in 9th-12th grade according to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS). Students should also complete additional work according to their needs and interests, as well as teacher discretion. Student responses and products can take many forms, including advertisements, essays, reports, short stories, skits, speeches, visual representations, and web pages.

Service-learning is the practice of linking academic course work to social issues that exist within the community, both locally and globally. Service-learning helps students understand the society and culture in which they will be working, raising families, and serving as productive citizens and community leaders.
What activities are included in community service: service-learning?
These volunteer projects not only help others but also give our students opportunities that connect class work to real-world experiences.
5 hours of service learning is required for all English classes beginning 2009-2010. Service learning will be a school-wide requirement for any student at MHS.
